I was born in France, but did most of my studies in Cameroon, and later in Spain.
After two independent Bachelor’s degrees in physics and communication engineering in Yaounde, Cameroon, I obtained a PhD of Photonics from the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC) in Palma de Mallorca, Spain (2002-2006). I also previously obtained in 2005 another (independent) PhD in applied nonlinear dynamics from the University of Yaounde I, Cameroon, while residing in Spain.
After my doctoral studies, I have been a CNRS postdoctoral fellow at the FEMTO-ST Institute in Besançon, France (2007-2009), and later on, a NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) fellow at the Quantum Science and Technology Group of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, USA (2009-2010).
In 2010, I joined the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in France, as a Research Scientist. I was first went to the FEMTO-ST Institute in Besançon, where I founded and led the Microwave Photonics Group for Aerospace and Communication Engineering. In 2017, I came back to the US to work at the Georgia Tech-CNRS Joint International Laboratory in Atlanta, and was promoted to CNRS Research Director in 2018.
In 2019, I joined the University of Maryland, where I am heading the Photonics Systems Lab (PSL). I am currently a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Director of Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics (IREAP).
I am a Fellow of SPIE, OPTICA and APS.
